Gwendolyn Davies was dean of graduate studies and associate vice-president of research at the University of New Brunswick from 2000-08, including a period as acting vice-president of research. She has served on the executive of the Canadian Association for Graduate Studies and the United States' Northeastern Association of Graduate Schools, and on the academic advisory committee of the Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission and the committee preparing an environmental scan of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council's doctoral fellowship program.
The author/editor/co-editor of five books and numerous articles, Davies was nominated to the Royal Society of Canada (where she is currently director of Division 1, Academy 1) in 2004, and was made professor and dean emerita at the University of New Brunswick in October 2008. During the 2008-09 academic year, she has been a visiting fellow in book history/print culture at the University of Toronto, visiting senior resident at the university's Massey College, and academic visitor at the University of Oxford's St. Hilda's College.
