Application Endorsement
You must contact the host research institution whose endorsement you wish to receive.
About the endorsement process
- The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program is distinguished from existing postdoctoral fellowships programs by its emphasis on the synergy between an applicant's individual merit and potential to launch a successful research-intensive career and the host institution's commitment to the research program and environment with which the applicant is to be affiliated.
- Applications to the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program must be completed in collaboration with the proposed host institution, which must endorse the applicant as part of the application process. These institutions include universities, affiliated-research hospitals, colleges and not-for-profit organizations with a strong research mandate and capacity.
- In order to select the most meritorious applicants for endorsement many institutions have their own internal deadlines, established by the Institution so that appropriate representative(s) can review the application files and select the applicants who will be endorsed. Internal deadlines will vary among institutions and are not regulated by the funding agencies, therefore it is the sole responsibility of applicants to ensure that any internal deadlines are met.
- As such, applicants are advised to make contact with the host institution at which they hope to conduct their postdoctoral training as early as possible to begin the process. All supporting materials from the host institution must be sent to the applicant prior to the submission deadline. The applicant is responsible for uploading the host institution documents to ResearchNet as part of their complete application submission. Referee forms are uploaded by the referee; however it is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that these forms are included by the deadline. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
- Host institutions may have particular requirements that must be fulfilled prior to endorsing an application. Applicants should consult the institution for further information about these requirements. As well, given that only 70 fellowships are awarded each year across all three agencies and the high level of collaboration required between applicants and host institutions it is expected that institutions will be endorsing a limited number of candidates.
